Second Sunday at Torrey - February 14th
Hello Fellow Hawks,
February 14th will be the Second Sunday of the month. You know what that means!!
If you can find some time, please come on out to Torrey Pines for another "Second Sunday with the Hawks". We'll have our standard food (sandwiches, cookies, chips, and soda), and I think Dave Beardslee will be there to fly tandems and my Falcon will be available for anyone who doesn't have a glider.
Here's a site for checking the forecast:: NWS San Diego |

Here's the wind prediction for tomorrow:
9am E @ 3
10am N @ 2
11am N @ 2
Noon N @ 2
1pm NW @ 9
2pm NW @ 9
3pm NW @ 9
4pm NW @ 7
5pm NW @ 7
6pm NW @ 7
It's not great, but in my experience it tends to underestimate the wind speed. The greater concern is the direction - starting out North and ending up North doesn't really tell how much "West" will be in that Northwest.
So that's my best estimate right now. Please feel free to continue to check your own weather sites, and please call me in the morning for a site report.
I'll be there with the standard sandwiches, sodas, and snacks either way. So if nothing else, you're welcome to just come hang out. My Falcon will be available as usual if you don't want to bother with a glider (bring a helmet and harness though).
I hope to see you there! |

Actually, I just checked again, and it's not looking much better (maybe worse).
I also got a call from Dave Beardslee who says that Elsinore is the better place to be, so that may be the better call for the day.
I'll still be at Torrey, but if you've got better sites to fly, please don't feel obligated to show up.
Wherever you go, have fun, and be safe!! |

Well, it wasn't a very good Torrey day. It was light and cross all day.
But we did have 5 Hawks members show up anyway, and we had some good conversations. I set up my Falcon anyway, and I enjoyed letting some of the spectators lift it and take a few steps to feel it lifting. I'm beginning to see what keeps Kenny so youthful!!
Thanks for everyone who came, and I hope everyone else had a good time wherever you flew. I heard Dave Beardslee was the "sky god" at Elsinore!! |
